TENEBRAE
THU, 2 APR 2026 | 11:00 PM
As Lent draws to a close, we embark on a journey into darkness, towards a realm of profound shadows. Join us at the Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service at 11:00 PM. 'Tenebrae', meaning 'darkness' in Latin, is a service that delves into the theme of Jesus's betrayal, denial, solitude, accusation, suffering, crucifixion, and death.
Seven readings mark this solemn occasion, each accompanied by the extinguishing of candles and meditative singing. While the Easter Vigil begins in a similar fashion, the light of Christ ultimately dispels the darkness as we approach Easter Sunday. For it is Christ's light that triumphs over darkness and guides us towards Eternal Life.
OFFICE OF READINGS & MORNING PRAYER (LAUDS)
Holy Saturday is a time of quiet mourning as we reflect on the death of our Lord and prepare our hearts for His Resurrection. On this day, the Church keeps watch at the Lord’s tomb, meditating on His Passion, Death, and His descent into hell.
The Office of Readings is part of the Church’s communal prayer, offered with Jesus and through Jesus to the Father—reminding us that His whole life was a prayer to the Father.
Date: SAT, 4 APR 2026
